2026-04-20refactor(test): drop deprecated exc_exec #39242Justin M. Keyes1
2025-02-05fix(messages): add a trailing space to inputlist() etc. prompts (#32328)zeertzjq1
Before #31525 the prompts had a trailing space. Also add a test for #7857.
2024-11-14fix(tests): needing two calls to setup a screen is cringebfredl1
Before calling "attach" a screen object is just a dummy container for (row, col) values whose purpose is to be sent as part of the "attach" function call anyway. Just create the screen in an attached state directly. Keep the complete (row, col, options) config together. It is still completely valid to later detach and re-attach as needed, including to another session.
2024-11-08refactor(tests): continue the global highlight definition workbfredl1
2024-04-23test: improve test conventionsdundargoc1
Specifically, functions that are run in the context of the test runner are put in module `test/testutil.lua` while the functions that are run in the context of the test session are put in `test/functional/testnvim.lua`. Closes https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/27004.

2023-12-09test: avoid repeated screen lines in expected stateszeertzjq1
This is the command invoked repeatedly to make the changes: :%s/^\(.*\)|\%(\*\(\d\+\)\)\?$\n\1|\%(\*\(\d\+\)\)\?$/\=submatch(1)..'|*'..(max([str2nr(submatch(2)),1])+max([str2nr(submatch(3)),1]))/g
2023-02-15test: make expect_unchanged() less confusing (#22255)zeertzjq1
Problem: The sleep before collecting the initial screen state is confusing and may lead to unexpected success if it comes after a blocking RPC call. Solution: Remove that sleep and add an "intermediate" argument.
2022-09-15feat(ui): use msg_grid based implementation for cmdheight=0bfredl1
2022-06-30feat: stdpath('run'), /tmp/nvim.user/ #18993Justin M. Keyes1
Problem: - Since c57f6b28d71d #8519, sockets are created in ~/.local/… but XDG spec says: "XDG_RUNTIME_DIR: Must be on the local filesystem", which implies that XDG_STATE_DIR is potentially non-local. - Not easy to inspect Nvim-created temp files (for debugging etc). Solution: - Store sockets in stdpath('run') ($XDG_RUNTIME_DIR). - Establish "/tmp/nvim.user/" as the tempdir root shared by all Nvims. - Make ok() actually useful. - Introduce assert_nolog(). closes #3517 closes #17093
2022-03-30fix(event-loop): duplicate display updating logic in vgetorpeek() (#17913)zeertzjq1
2022-02-03fix(event-loop): call vpeekc() directly first to check for characterzeertzjq1
Expand mappings first by calling `vpeekc()` directly.
2021-11-26vim-patch:7.4.1777Sean Dewar1
Problem: Newly added features can escape the sandbox. Solution: Add checks for restricted and secure. (Yasuhiro Matsumoto) https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/3849992b16011e36a5cb5be4b127f843389b96fd timer_start is missing check_secure. The timer callback can, for example, call a function defined from outside the sandbox that does stuff that would be disallowed from inside the sandbox. This is usually not allowed. Cherry-pick eval.txt change from: https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/68e6560b84f196c82e27a72669684d5506a3a837 Required for v8.1.2013.
2021-09-17test: reorg #15698Justin M. Keyes1
Problem: Subdirectories like "visual", "insert", "normal" encourage people to separate *related* tests for no good reason. Typically the _mode_ is not the relevant topic of a test (and when it is, _then_ create an appropriate describe() or it()). Solution: - Delete the various `test/functional/<mode>/` subdirectories, move their tests to more meaningful topics. - Rename `…/normal/` to `…/editor/`. - Move or merge `…/visual/*` and `…/insert/*` tests into here where appropriate. - Rename `…/eval/` to `…/vimscript/`. - Move `…/viml/*` into here also. * test(reorg): insert/* => editor/mode_insert_spec.lua * test(reorg): cmdline/* => editor/mode_cmdline_spec.lua * test(reorg): eval core tests => eval_spec.lua
